  • Jamiatul Philippines al-Islamia, Zulqarnain (guest) wrote 10 years ago:
This is my only Alma Mater where I learned the basic rituals and principles of Islam. I completed here my elementary course (arabic and english)in 1979, secondary in 1983 and 5 year engineering course (Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering) in 1988. In other words, I am a real and genuine alumnus from this institution. Some of my energetic instructors in college were Prof. Mama S. Mangorangca, Civil Engineer, a famous maranao-muslim astronomer, a member and Philippine national coordinator of the International Islamic Calendar Programme, Malaysia; Member of the Islamic Crescent Observation Project, Jordan; Member of the Philippine Astronomical Society; Consulting Engineer and General Manager of the Multi-System Consultancy, Marawi City; Late Prof. Medior T. Diego, a first Maranao Chemist; late Atty. Aksaran B. Sheik (secretary to the office of the President), a poet and our editorial consultant of the First Univertsity graduating class yearbook, The MINARET '88"; Aleem Zainoden Bato (my professor in arabic literature and Islamic Studies), and P/2LT Rominimbang D. Macabantog, ARESCOM, PA (my instructor in Military Science). With this, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks and gratitude to them for the knowledge/science that they imparted to me which are became as my armament in my daily life struggle in this temporary world until in the day of resurrection. This institution, the Jamiatul Philippine Al-Islamia or JPI (abbreviation), is an arabic word which literally means "Islamic University of the Philippine". It was founded in the year 1955 thru the initiative and concerned of the founding chairman late Dr. Ahmad Domocao A. Alonto, PhD, a former Senator of the Republic and was also the founding father of the Mindanao State University main, Marawi City. He is one of the recipient of the King Faizal International Awardee in "Service to Islam". This "Jamiat" is a member of the International Association of Universities. This is the only first and duly private Islamic University in the country that had established centers for arabic literature and islamic studies and research since 1955. To mention some of its daughter institutions are now the; Mindanao State University main, Jamie'o Mindanao Al-Islamie and the Islamic Center mosque, all of Marawi City. These are Great landmarks in the city through-out the country and even in the foreign countries especially middle east. These are the some of the token as treasured by late Former Philippine Senator Dr. Ahmad Domocao A. Alonto in reminiscence to his sacrifices in the "Service to Islam". This "Jamiat" is offering many courses, i.e.; Ph.d., masteral degree, bachelor degree ( secondary and elementary education course, computer science, military science and criminology, AB Political Science, commerce, shari'ah/advacne course in islamic studies, Engineering), and scretarial. It was ranked as Top No. 7 among the list of engineering institution in the region as per evaluation conducted by the Department of Education Culture and Sports (now DepEd), Cotabato City in the year 1987-88. There are many prominent religious and political leaders who are now holding key post particularly in the government side but they are the products of this "Jamiat". Most of them are mulims scholars, Pd.d., master and doctor of laws, doctor and mster of edecation, prosecutors, direftors, Local Chief Executive (local and regional level), military and police officers and mostly of the Freedom Fighters by the Bangsamoro peoples in MIndanao are the products of the seed cared from the nursery of the Jamiatul Philippine Al-Islamia. Now, I am very proud to be a product (a real and genuine alumnus) of this "Jamiat", the Jamiatul Philippine Al-Islamia (Islamic University of the Philippine), Marawi City, Philippine.
